Welcome to Glen Sligachan: Our Story
Tucked between the jagged peaks of the Black Cuillin and the gentle rise of the Red Cuillin, Glen Sligachan isn’t just a place to pass through - it’s a place to stay, slow down, and soak up the real Skye.
This remote glen has long drawn walkers, climbers, campers and curious travellers alike. The iconic Sligachan Bridge (said to bring eternal beauty if you dip your face in the water beneath it) marks the beginning of countless adventures. And just beyond it lies our wee corner of the island: a campsite, self-catering lodge and blackhouse cottages complete with locally roasted coffee and banging tacos.
We’re based right in the middle of the island, making it easy to explore all corners of Skye - from the Fairy Pools and Talisker Distillery, to the Old Man of Storr and the colourful harbour of Portree. But there's plenty to do without even getting in the car: hike deep into the Glen, attempt a summit, or simply sit by the river and take it all in.
A brief History of Glen Sligachan:
Tucked between the Red and Black Cuillin mountains, Glen Sligachan is home to one of Skye’s most dramatic landscapes. The glen itself sits on ancient land, shaped by glacial movement and steeped in local folklore. Some say the waters beneath Sligachan Bridge were blessed by the fairies and you will often find people crouched beneath it, splashing their faces in search of eternal beauty.
Since the 1980s, our campsite has welcomed thousands of walkers, climbers, and travellers - all drawn here by the lure of the mountains and the promise of adventure. For over 40 years, we’ve watched muddy boots come and go, celebrated summits with soggy campers, and shared stories by the fire. We’re proud to carry on that tradition today - offering a simple, friendly base for those looking to explore one of the wildest corners of the UK.
Sligachan Campsite:
Glen Sligachan Campsite sits right at the mouth of the glen, offering a relaxed base with unbeatable views. Ideal for campers, vanlifers, and motorhomes, we’ve got hardstanding and electric hook-up pitches available to book, along with plenty of space for tents.
We keep things simple: clean loos and hot showers, laundry facilities and a drying room for soggy boots and kit, and a small shop stocked with essentials. In the evenings, tuck into authentic Mexican tacos and fresh locally roasted coffee served right here on site.
Dogs are welcome too - just keep them on a lead and be mindful of local wildlife.
Sligachan Lodge:
If you’d rather sleep indoors, the lodge is a cosy, self-catering spot that sleeps up to eleven people. It’s the perfect base for family holidays, group getaways, or celebratory escapes. Set in a commanding position at the mouth of the glen, the house has five bedrooms - each with its own bathroom - and has all the space you need to spread out after a day in the hills.
Inside, you’ll find a large, fully equipped kitchen, a generous living room with an open fire (logs provided), and a welcoming entrance hall with a washer and dryer for your wet weather gear. The lodge has a baronial charm, with roaring fires, long dinners around the table, and plenty of room for muddy boots and tall tales. Linen and towels are provided, so all you need to bring is your sense of adventure.
Sligachan Blackhouses:
Modern design meets island tradition in our two identical Blackhouse Cabins - stylish, self-catering cottages that sleep up to six guests each. Inspired by Skye’s historic blackhouses but reimagined with clean Nordic interiors, these cabins are all about comfort and connection to the landscape.
Large picture windows frame panoramic views of the Cuillin mountains, bringing the outdoors in whether you're sipping coffee or curled up after a big day out. Inside, you’ll find a fully equipped kitchen, cosy living space, modern bathroom, and comfy beds made up with fresh linen and towels.
Whether you're here for a walking holiday, a family escape, or just to switch off and soak in the scenery - the Blackhouse Cabins offer a warm, quiet place to call home.
Brews + Bites:
After a long hike or a cold swim, you don’t need to go far for good food. During the season, our small onsite food hut serves up slow-roasted Mexican tacos, freshly made by Alberto - a proper treat after a day in the hills. Open 7 days a week through the season 5pm - 8.30pm.
For coffee lovers, we proudly serve Caora Dhubh Coffee - locally roasted right here on Skye. Grab a cup and sip it by the river or watch the sun disappear behind the hills. Served daily from 7.30am - 6pm.
We also have a selection of snacks available at the campsite reception for those needing a top-up of provisions for a day on the hills!
